Windmills provide an aesthetically pleasing and energy efficient way to to aerate ponds, dugouts and wastewater reservoirs. Lake diffusers and bottom diffusion plates perform exceptionally well with a wind powered aeration system and a spinning windmill also has the power to remind us of simpler times. Aerating with a windmill is not complicated; the wind turns the twelve blades which operate a powerful air-compressor that sends up to 30 psi of air down to a diffusion system at the bottom of the pond.

The new 25' Uni-Pole model reaches higher to grab the wind in almost any location. The new, modern looking single pole anchoring system is perfect for those who want a more up-to-date look for their windmill. The single pole is easier to install and once installed has a smaller visible footprint. The UniPole should be anchored to a slab 10 feet square which can then be covered with plants or shrubs to cover it.

Our standard Koender windmill packages include airstones for aeration. These pourous stones are usually placed in a bucket to keep them on the pond floor. Complete instructions on installing your diffusers are included.

A membrane disc may be substituted for the airbase or even a length of our Bubble Tubing for special pond sizes and shapes. There are many options for choosing the right diffuser so ask us for more details. We also have a weighted tubing available in 1/2" and 3/8" diameter to make installation of your diffusers even easier. Do things right!

Windmills built by Koenders have an extremely efficient direct drive system that transfers energy simply and effectively with very few moving parts. This friction reduction results in a windmill that is more reliable, efficient and of course windmill maintenance is thereby greatly reduced which means your investment maintains value. The compressor is the heart of any windmill aeration system for ponds and lakes and a Koenders Windmill has a sealed ball-bearing crankshaft that is attached and rotated by the large surface area blades. Superior Brand Windmills also offer the option of a Turbo Compressor which has two diaphragms instead of one.

A low wind velocity will suffice to initiate blade rotation which will transfer energy from the ultra-strong crankshaft to the connecting rod which has one or two diaphragms connected to it (the Superior brand of windmills has a dual diaphragm) which act like powerful pistons: On the upstroke the air is forced out into the aeration hose and on the downstroke air is drawn into the system. The Superior Turbojet stream model contains two diaphragms which operate in unison that will theoretically provide twice the output as a Koenders single diaphragm windmill.

The Superior model windmill is also available on request and is made in China and comes with a limited one year warranty.

IMPORTANT: Weather conditions are unpredictable and strong winds combined with freezing and thawing and or heavy rains can loosen any soil type and make any installation susceptible to natural conditions. For this reason it is impossible to guarantee that an installation of any windmill can withstand all weather conditions. Even windmills in cement footings may be damaged under severe wind conditions. Avoid attaching weather stations, signs or flags to your windmill tower as this can add additional wind resistance to your structure making it more susceptible to gusts.

Construction of a 20 foot windmill will take about 6 to 8 hours for two people. Three people are needed to erect the windmill safely. Cement footings are recommended to secure the windmill.

WINDMILL WATER PUMPS
These pumps can easily be attached to your windmill airline for water pumping. You may also use a line splitter and run your aerator part-time and switch over to the water pump when needed.

Windmills for pond aeration

As the windmill turns the compressor, pressurized air is forced through the hose and into the diffusion discs. The system includes multi-safety check valves that prevent any water backing up into the hose and the valves ensure a unidirectional airflow. The pressurized air passes through the hose and is released in the bottom diffuser plate of the lake or pond. A series of check valves are built in, ensuring a one-way air flow through the system, and prevents water from back-flowing. The initial check valves are situated atop the diaphragm and allow the intake of air into the system. There is another valve situated on the actual compression unit that allows the collected air to pass into the air line. From here the air hose will be connected to a bottom plate diffuser which completes the mixing of the air with the water in many micro-bubbles. This is the pond aeration process.

Expansive Blade Area - windmills engage in winds as light as 4 k/hr. Stronger winds are required when diffusers are in deeper waters.

Tail Design - Tail shape and size allow the windmill to track the changing wind direction easier which significantly increases output aeration.

Low Maintenance Construction - In order to minimize the costly damage of dirt and foreign particles to the valves and diaphragm, the compressor unit is placed at the top of the Koenders windmill. Due to a replaceable air-intake filter no grit, grease, or damaging substances will enter the compressor, so your machine will run smoother and longer with less costly cleanups or breakdowns. Only the highest of quality-controlled materials are utilized in the sealed bearings and crankshaft increasing the longevity of the windmill in the harshest of Canadian conditions. Even the head uses only the finest brass fittings. There are no cheap plastic or nylon assembly parts that may fracture, crack, or breakdown.

Strong Tower Design - The tower structure features cross brace reinforcements and a wide footprint which enhance the tower's strength and make it safer in strong winds. The windmill is available with a 3.6 metre or 6.1 metre tower. (12 and 20ft)

Freeze Control System - An optional freeze control unit is available. This system protects against devastating winter line freezes by constantly monitoring the current line pressure and injecting an alcohol antifreeze into the air hose if any ice buildup is detected. This provides worry free operation and insures against the aeration system from failing during cold spells.
